POSITION DESCRIPTION THERAPIST

LIVINGSTON COUNTY CATHOLIC CHARITIES


PURPOSE OF POSITION:


The Therapist provides clinical case services for clients within the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment program for clients assigned by the Clinical Supervisor. Clinical services include, but are not limited to, crisis intervention, clinical therapy and related case management. The therapist serves as a member of the Clinical Services team and participates in a variety of program related activities.


The Therapist serves as a member of the Clinical Services team and provides input towards the general management of the program. As a member of the Clinical Services team, the Therapist provides back-up support to other team members, including 24-hour on-call, on an as indicated basis.


EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:


  1. Education: MSW from an accredited school of social work. LMSW in the State of Michigan is preferred. A closely related MA may be considered, depending upon requirements of purchasers of service. For those therapists providing Substance Abuse Treatment, the CAAC certification is preferred.

  1. Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of direct service experience in a family service, or similar setting, preferably as a clinician. A Master's level internship may be considered towards the experience. Preference for experience with vulnerable populations.

  1. Additional: A demonstrated ability to work with a variety of professional and support staff in a productive and team-oriented manner. An ability to function well in a multi-task environment.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


General:

  1. Attends and participates in staff and programmatic meetings as required.
  2. Understands and adheres to agency policies and procedures (Personnel, Program and Fiscal), including funding sources, licensing and accreditation requirements.
  3. Maintain Client chart documentation through the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) including EMR forms and Scanned documentation.
  4. Maintains confidentiality of client EMR records and information.
  5. Maintains good attendance, is punctual and follows procedure to report schedule changes.
  6. Follows all policies and procedures for client service delivery, including EMR documentation and funding source requirements.
  7. Is committed to attaining and maintaining mastery of the level of knowledge and skills required for the position, along with discretionary changes in the position responsibilities.
  8. Demonstrates a willingness to take the initiative in tackling new tasks.
  9. Is able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  10. Demonstrates cooperative working relationships with co-workers, immediate supervisor, professional peers and the community-at-large. Demonstrates decision-making skills and an ability to handle difficult or problematic situations.
  11. Maintains a high quality of work: accuracy, attention to detail, originality, timeliness, organization and an appropriate degree of supervision needed to accomplish tasks.
  12. Provides constructive feedback to coworkers and peers, maintains collegial relationships with co-workers and other professionals.
  13. Explain the available agency services and community resources to clientele, prospective clientele and the general community.
  14. Performs other tasks as directed by the Executive Director or his/her designee.

Program/Position-Specific:

  1. Establish positive and empowering working relationships with assigned clientele.
  2. Advocate for the needs of agency clientele within the local social service and political network.
  3. Make referrals to other programs and service providers as indicated, provide timely follow-up with other organizations.
  4. Provide back-up support for other program staff on an as needed basis.
  5. Gathers complete client intake information from in-coming clients requesting program services and write-up a thorough intake assessment and case plan. Close client cases in a thorough and timely manner as indicated by agency procedure and funding source requirements.
  6. Actively participates as a member of the Clinical Service program team. Participates in the development and achievement of programmatic goals, policies and procedures.
  7. Recommends modifications in the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Treatment program, when indicated, to meet client and community needs.
  8. Participates in regular and formal supervision with the Clinical Supervisor. Accepts and utilizes feedback from the Clinical Supervisor in a timely manner.
  9. Identifies training needs of self and works with the Clinical Supervisor to develop a plan to address these needs.
  10. Participates in the QA/UR process, as indicated by the annual QA/UR plan.
  11. Keeps the Clinical Supervisor informed of critical issues impacting clients, program and/or agency operations.
  12. Participates, as appropriate, on committees, in seminars and workshops, in areas relevant to area of practice within the agency and/or community.
  13. Cooperates with other agencies and programs within the community to promote more efficient and more effective services for individual clients.
  14. Assists the Clinical Supervisor with required reports (demographics, statistics, narrative) on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, as needed.
  15. Thoroughly and accurately completes required documentation for all client cases, as indicated by agency procedures and/or funding sources.
  16. Works collaboratively with coworkers in the preparation of flyers, brochures, and newsletters etc. for program publicity and marketing purposes.

Accountability: The Therapist reports to the Clinical Supervisor. In his/her absence, will keep the Executive Director or designee fully informed of all critical client issues.


Classification: This is a professional position and is Non-Exempt. The Therapist position may be full-time or may be part-time (a designated fraction of full-time).


Other: Full-time therapists are employed on an hourly basis, with a 65% of the available hours designated for direct client service. Part-time therapists (less than 1,000 hour annually) are employed on an hourly per unit basis. The specific terms will be addressed in the Letter of Employment and will be updated, by mutual agreement, as needed.
